Consumer Watchdog Guide: 24-Hour Cancellation Rules, Lesson Credit Expirations & Package Savings

Protect your educational budget and manage your lesson scheduling effectively with these practical tips from BudgetFitter’s education analysts:

• Understand the Strict 24-Hour Cancellation Policy: You can cancel or reschedule any scheduled lesson for free up to 24 hours before the lesson start time. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or fail to attend, italki policy permits the teacher to claim the full lesson fee to compensate for their reserved time.
• Save 5% to 15% with Multi-Lesson Packages: Once you find a tutor you enjoy working with, look for multi-lesson package offers (typically 5, 10, or 20 lessons) on the teacher’s profile, which reduce the effective hourly rate compared to single-lesson bookings.
• Maintain Account Activity to Prevent Credit Expiry: italki Credits remain valid indefinitely as long as your account remains active. If an account has zero logins and zero lesson bookings for more than 12 consecutive months, credits may expire under platform terms of service.
• Test Teachers via 30-Minute Trial Sessions First: Never purchase a 10-lesson package on your first encounter with a new tutor. Use one of your three introductory trial slots to evaluate audio quality, internet stability, and teaching chemistry before committing larger funds.
• Utilise Free Community Exercises: Take advantage of italki’s free community features, where native speakers correct your written journal entries and answer grammar questions at zero cost.
